Starbucks Just Opened Its First Bakery—and It Will Make Your Mouth Water
Coffee lovers, your java fix is about to change forever.
We all know Starbucks for its delicious and decadent brews. But now, we have one more reason to love this worldwide coffee chain. The company just launched its first high-end Italian bakery—called Princi bakery and cafe—at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle.
If you think piping-hot coffee and a freshly baked treat is a match made in heaven, then this new joint is your dream come true. Customers can munch on over 100 different Italian-inspired sandwiches, breads, and other baked goods—including croissants in the morning and sandwiches and salads at lunchtime. Some of the fare will be made with locally sourced produce, too.
This is the first time in its 45-year history that Starbucks will offer freshly baked goods in any of its stores. And lucky for us, it’s not planning to stop anytime soon. A second Princi bakery will open in the Shanghai roastery this December, the company said. Going forward, Starbucks plans to launch bakeries at its roasteries in Milan, New York, Tokyo, and Chicago, too.
We have Rocco Princi, a “village artisan bread baker” and owner of Princi bakeries, to thank for these yummy additions to our favorite coffeehouse. Since founding his first location in Milan in 1980, he has opened five independent locations in Milan and one in London. Starbucks’ Seattle roastery will host the first Princi location in the U.S.
“His passion for authentic food and respect for Milanese culture come through in everything he does, and I think our customers are going to fall in love with Princi,” Howard Schultz, Starbucks’ executive chairman, said in a statement.
