He didn’t tell anyone when he started his famous diet.

“If you’re struggling with weight loss, keep it a secret. For so many years, I blabbed to everyone that I was going to lose weight and then I’d fall off the wagon and feel defeated. So in my Subway sandwich attempt, I decided to keep it to myself, and that helped me stay motivated.”

He stops eating before he feels too full.

“You have to learn to be okay with a little bit of hunger. I used to be stuffed all the time, so adjusting to the feeling of hunger is tough, but key. Be at peace with that hunger: it means your body is burning calories and fat.”

He takes every day as a fresh start.

“We’re going to make mistakes, so if you overeat, start anew the next meal, or even the next day…. Having a balanced approach and
allowing yourself to indulge a little is the only thing that works long term.”

Every six months, he checks his plan to make sure it’s still working for him.

“Anyone can lose weight, but keeping the weight off is the real battle. Phase one is just losing weight, but after that, you have to adjust your lifestyle to keep it steady. Whether it’s eating a little less or exercising a little more, find ways to tweak your routine.”
