Wellness for the win
If there’s one thing the pandemic has taught us, it’s to never take our health and well-being for granted. That’s why so many of us are planning vacations right now, whether it’s a nearby weekend getaway or a longer, more far-flung trip, perhaps to an all-inclusive Hawaiian resort. Some companies are even offering an initiative called a wellness week—a paid week off of work that allows employees to recharge. After the last year and a half, we want to strengthen our personal connections with friends and family and recover our sanity. For that reason, it’s also prompted another big trend: wellness travel. These vacations help you relax and de-stress, recharge and renew, or just point you toward a healthier lifestyle. The Global Wellness Summit says that one of the top trends for 2021 will be for “all travel to become wellness travel as manic getaways are replaced by slower, closer, and more mindful experiences.” While you can add a dose of R&R to any vacation, wellness retreats are specifically designed to get the job done.
While there are plenty of wellness-oriented spots around the globe, we’ve rounded up the best of the best in North America to make things less stressful in terms of traveling and planning. These resorts offer complete programs so you can fully immerse yourself in what you need to feel better, not just carve out a few hours for a massage (although we’re fans of those, too). Most of these destinations can be reached in just a few hours from most of the country, so you’ll be on your way to a whole new you in no time. If you can’t take one of these mini-vacations right now, don’t worry—you can still make relaxing a priority at a gorgeous beach house rental or quiet cabin, but definitely bookmark this information for later!

The Lodge embraces a philosophy of personal awakening, and it offers more than 35 daily classes touching on everything from the expected (yoga and hiking) to the more meditative (watercolor painting and cooking) to the downright adrenaline-pumping (fire making and hatchet throwing). You’ll find unique classes and features each season, including summer lake activities like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and fishing, as well as chef-led garden dinners (with an option for sommelier wine pairings for a slight extra charge).

Its athletic instructors and speakers are top-notch, but what really sets Canyon Ranch apart from the rest is its teams of on-staff medical professionals who focus on preventive and integrative medicine and use advanced diagnostics and assessments to help you implement healthy lifestyle changes.
